The Overbought Myth: Why Momentum Pinning Crushes Counter-Trend Traders
Novice traders often treat the Relative Strength Index like a simple light switch: RSI touches 70, open a down trade; RSI drops to 30, open an up trade. On short-expiry platforms, this habit gets expensive fast. In powerful, sustained trends, RSI does not immediately bounce back toward the middle. Instead, it gets pinned in extreme territory—remaining above 70 or below 30 while price continues to rip aggressively in the trend's direction.
When learning how to use RSI on Quotex, understanding this momentum pinning is critical. An asset pressing high against the upper threshold is actually demonstrating strong buying pressure, not an imminent collapse. Selling directly into that momentum means fighting a runaway trend with a fixed time limit working against you. Until the line physically crosses back inside the 70/30 boundaries—ideally backed by a clear reversal structure on the chart—treating extreme readings as automatic counter-trend signals is a quick path to frustration.
Keep in mind that financial trading carries a high level of risk and can result in the total loss of your invested capital. Technical indicators like RSI exist for market context and educational analysis, not as guaranteed trade execution signals.
